A day in the life

Most Piano tunings take place in a pretty good environment; either in the home or venue. Ideally of course, pianos need a stable environment; they don’t do well with radiators, underfloor heating or draughts. Concert halls get warmer when the audience and orchestra arrive- all or which impacts the tuning and the time the technician has spent factoring that in to the tuning.

Public pianos in train stations present a huge range of challenges, as they are technically outside. At Islington Pianos we are proud to support HS1 with looking after the pianos at St Pancras International, Stratford International and Ebbsfleet.

Aside from the regular monthly tuning of the pianos at St Pancras, when there is a surprise performance we make sure it is as good as it can be. Recently, I caught up with Laurence as he headed down to the station for a tuning ahead of an impromptu celebrity appearance..
